John Geddert

2007 USAG National Coach of the Year             Being awarded state or regional (5 state area) coach of the year 14 times indicates that the Twistars head coach must be doing a few things right. John has been an instrumental force in guiding
Twistars and our 5 State Region (Region 5) towards national prominence. A former collegiate scholarship athlete himself at CMU, John?s drive and
dedication for the sport of gymnastics are apparent. As a coach his accomplishments are staggering. As a volunteer administrator he has served to better the rules and policies that govern our sport and has provided countless rewarding experiences for his and other athletes. As the Twistars owner he has pledged to maintain the importance of integrity over materialistic rewards. His work ethic, organizational skills, knack for teaching technical excellence, and love
of the children make him the cornerstone of the Twistars organization.

Kathryn Geddert
2007 USAG National Coach of the Year    One of the most decorated yet sometimes under recognized coaches in the country, Kathryn Geddert serves as the guiding force at Twistars USA. Being a mother of 3 she can draw on child rearing experience and provide nurturing when needed. Being a former collegiate athlete she understands how important proper training and coaching can affect performance and progress. Being a Brevet Judge she understands the complex rules of the sport and can make sure her athletes fulfill all the routine requirements. Having a dance background helps her with the choreography details that so many programs do without. And being married to John Geddert for 29 years proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is a woman of patience.

Daniel McCarty

One of the most gifted technicians in the sport, Daniel McCarty is one of the main reasons why Twistars USA continues to be productive and successful nationwide. Daniel was an accomplished gymnast under the direction of Kurt Golder, now head coach at the University of Michigan, where he learned the value of proper progressions and basics training. Nobody coaches detail like Daniel. Combine the love of children, the complete understanding of technique, and the sense of humor to keep any training session entertaining, and you have a masterful coach. Daniel has been known to be a bit intense at times but has been learning how to hone the art of intensity into the art of motivation. Judging by results and the number of hugs he receives each day, I’d say he is well on his way.

Carrie Stout

What she lacks in past gymnastics experience she makes up for in reliability, work ethic, determination, and organization. If she doesn’t know something, she will learn it. If something needs attention, Carrie will be there. Carrie Stout is the backbone of our Twistars compulsory program and has been instrumental in setting the stage for our athletes to achieve at the optional levels. Nobody loves kids more that Carrie and that serves as the foundation of her approach to coaching. Don’t mistake love of child for being soft in the gym, because this lady will simply NOT let you get away with mediocrity. Demanding yet understanding, now that’s a great combination!

Tom Buese

The search for a boys coach replacement has ended and we are proud to announce the addition of TOM BUESE to the Twistars Staff. Tom comes to us from the University of Iowa where he was a varsity athlete and letter winner Tom just graduated this past spring with a degree in sports fitness. His passion for gymnastics extends back to his club days in Gainsville, Florida where he was an accomplished club athlete. During his senior year Tom was named to the All American Scholar Athletes team, All Academic Big 10 Team and was Captain of the Year for Iowa this past season. As part of the interview process we were searching for a knowledgeable and passionate person. One who would sink his heart and sole into continuing the development of our boys program. I think we have found that person. Obviously, being a collegiate athlete provides a great base of knowledge about the various techniques and skills involved in coaching gymnastics, but application is key. Tom has served in many capacities as a coach while working his way through college. We are looking forward to the new leadership for our boys program. Welcome aboard Tom.

Anne Witherill

Twistars USA is proud to announce the addition of Anne Witherill to our already fine coaching staff. Anne is very familiar with the standards, expectations and program operations at Twistars USA as she was a cornerstone employee from 1996-98. Actually she was also a part of the Geddert staff prior to the opening of Twistars in 1996.

Since leaving our staff in 1998 she has maintained her involvement with gymnastics as the head coach for Holt High School where she led the Rams to the STATE HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in 2007. Holt was also the runner up state champs in 2006. Needless to say Anne knows how to coach.

Kristin Merrit

A former level 10 standout from Wisconsin and 4 year letter winner for the Spartans at MSU, Kristin Merrit is a valuable part of our developmental and entry level competitive team staff. She combines a no-non-sense approach with a caring personality when dealing with our students. Kids absolutely love her and the effort she gets out of her students is truly amazing. Even though she may be a Packer fan we don’t hold that against her especially now that the Farve era is coming to an end. On the other hand when she starts rooting for the Badgers we may have some issues to deal with.
